Choosing Colocation

Colocation is a kind of web hosting where you can store your server at a Data Centre. The server will be owned by the customer but they can get some where they can store the server.
Colocation is usually cheaper than your own server but more expensive than basic hosting when it comes to prices. It is a cheaper option than fully hosting your server yourself if you want to control of your server and have the skills needed to do the tasks on the server. The main reason why many people go for collocation is the control over your server. Customizations and upgrades on the server can be done exactly how you want them giving you a high amount of flexibility.
The conditions on where your server will be stored are favorable to its hosting. Location of where the server will be stored is specifically designed for its purpose. For example, room temperature will be controlled to suit hosting. Backups should also be usually done in case of problems like power interruptions. Flexibility is also higher than hosting the server yourself because of the high amount of bandwidth available.
If you host your own server and will need to move premises, the entire server needs to move with you and this might cause problems such as downtime. This is not a big problem with Colocation as the always remain in the same place. Most Colocation Centre’s provide assistance that can be useful if you want control over your own server but not sure if you have the skills needed.
As you can see, there are many advantages of Colocation but the fact of being it as the best option for you will also depend on your situation. If you only need basic hosting, then it is not the best choice but if you need more requirements and own your own server, it may be easier cheaper, and more convenient than hosting the server yourself.
