Deciding on what type of web host provider to use usually comes after deciding to create a website. There are four types of web hosts each with their set of advantages and disadvantages but the best one will always depend on your website’s needs. You should always consider each type before deciding on what type to get.
A very popular type of web hosting for personal sites is free web hosting because of the main fact that it is free. It also has advantages like no hosting charges, no domain registration charges, and no other fees. You can own a website totally for free. The disadvantage is you will not have very much control of your website and you will most likely to use templates offered by the website. You will also not have enough amounts of disk space and bandwidth, and also not your own dedicated domain name.
Another popular choice and the next type of web hosting is the shared server type. With this type of web hosting, you will pay for using space on your web host’s server. The cost for this is quite low but giving you your own domain name. Options to add more disk space by paying additional fees when needed are also available but you will still not necessarily have very large amounts of disk space and still having limited band width in addition to sharing server space with the web host’s other customers.
When using a shared server, there could be security and privacy risks involved since other customer could accidentally see your information that is why a shared server is not ideal if you want to offer ecommerce on your site.
The third type is the dedicated server where only your site and your information will be stored on the server meaning having plenty of disk space and band width and safer privacy of your information. The disadvantage of a dedicated server is its cost as they cost relatively higher since you are paying for the use of a whole server just for yourself.
The last type of web host is the collocated server where you will provide the actual server that will be located on a web host’s premises. It offers you more security and availability of your server.
Choosing a server that is right for you really depends on what your website needs and how much money are you willing to pay for it.
